The enemy continues to destroy Ukraine’s publishing industry.
Russian attacks are systematically targeting Ukraine’s book infrastructure: publishing houses, printing facilities, warehouses and logistics centres.
The world continues to change and evolve, but the enemy’s objective remains the same – to destroy Ukrainian society and its memory. For centuries, Russia has used a familiar tool in its efforts to undermine Ukrainian national identity – the destruction of Ukrainian books!
This summer, Russian attacks have inflicted enormous losses on Ukraine’s publishing industry. In July alone, more than 1.5 million books were lost. And on 1 August, a Russian strike on Kharkiv destroyed around 8 million copies of books, including approximately 600,000 school textbooks.
Very soon, on 1 September, Ukrainian schools will open their doors to children. These books and textbooks were meant to be on school desks across Ukraine. They would be opened by children’s hands. These textbooks were meant to open the door to the world of knowledge for thousands of children and help them shape their future, step by step!
The ENIC Ukraine team, like millions of Ukrainians, is certain that the enemy will never be able to destroy the Ukrainian heart and the code of our nation – deeply rooted in our language, culture, history and collective memory.
Ukrainian schools will open.
Teachers will teach.
Children will learn.
New textbooks will be printed.
And every new Ukrainian book will be another testament to the fact that Ukraine cannot be deprived of its future!
