Results of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Conference

On March 07, 2024, first extraordinary session of the Intergovernmental Conference of the Member State to the Global Convention on the Recognition of Qualifications concerning Higher Education took place in Paris in UNESCO headquarters. Representatives from more than 40 member states of the Global Convention participated in the event.
The state expert of the Directorate of Professional Pre-higher and Higher education of MES of Ukraine Vitaliy Nosok, Director of ENIC Ukraine Viktoriya Sergiyenko and senior adviser Tetiana Vahina joined the work of the Conference on the part of Ukraine as observers.
Discussion on transnational higher education, its quality and impact of state-of-the-art technology took place within the framework of the Conference.
As a result of the conference the representatives of the states-members of the Global Convention approved the programme and approximate terms as to the activities of the working groups in April 2024-June 2025, in particular, a workshop on recognition of refugee qualifications was scheduled.
The Global Convention on the Recognition of Qualifications concerning Higher Education was adopted by UNESCO member states in 2019 and entered into force in March, 2023. The Global Сonvention establishes universal principles for fair, transparent and non-discriminatory recognition of higher education qualifications and qualifications giving access to higher education and offering avenues for further study and employment.
As of the end of 2023, the Global Convention was ratified by 25 member state. Ukraine is so far on the way to its ratification and opening new opportunities in the recognition of higher education qualifications.
